Agnes Marie (Hoover) Bowman, 95, passed away at 12:27 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2014, at Blair Ridge Health Campus, Peru. Agnes was born Feb. 21, 1919, in Peru, the daughter of William H. and Sarah (Stephenson) Williams. She married Fred Hoover on March 26, 1943, and he passed away on Oct. 30, 2000.
Agnes graduated from Peru High School in 1938. She worked at Peters Falk Drug Store as a waitress and later at Burger Chef.
One of Agnes’ greatest joys was caring for children. She babysat many children in the Peru area after she hung up her waitress aprons. Many of the children she cared for came to know her as “Grandma.” She enjoyed the flowers in her yard and took great pride in her home, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Agnes was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Lewis Arnold Williams, Leslie Lee Williams, Leonard Edward Williams, Raymond Earl Williams, Delbert O’Dell Williams; three sisters, Verna Estil Mullikin, Rosanna Irene Smith, and Mary Elizabeth McIntosh; four stepchildren, Robert Lee Hoover, Norman Wayne Hoover, Doris Jean Brown and Sue Carol Schaaf; and one grandson, Larry Joe Hoover.
Agnes is survived by a son, Terry Lee Hoover, Kokomo; a daughter, Sherri Jo Durham and husband, John, Leesburg; and a sister, Betty Jean Bilodeau, Wabash. Also surviving are five stepchildren, Janet Snider, Mary Faye Yerkes, Nileta Bowman, Elton Bowman Jr. and Richard Bowman; granddaughter, Lisa Leigh Schell, Peru, Teri Lynn McCord, Lavergne Tenn., Heather Nicole Lederle, St. Robert, Mo., Ginger McCrackin, Cinda Hogan and Donna Weisman, all of Midland, Texas; grandson, Robert Lee Hoover, Bend, Ore.; great-grandchildren, Kimberly Fisher, Bayleigh Schell, Redik McCord, Amanda McCord, Danielle McCord, Anthony McCord Jr., Tyler Daniel Lederle and Nicholas Sebastian Lederle.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, Peru, with Pastor Gary Colby, of Leesburg, officiating. Visitation will be from noon until the time of services Thursday. Graveside services and burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Peru.
