Bob G. Gibson

— Bob G. Gibson passed away at 1:40 a.m. Sunday, March 24, 2013, in his home in Converse. He was born in Amboy on July 10, 1930, to the late Lawrence R. and Ava (Butler) Gibson. He married Louise McCracken on Nov. 7, 1953.

He graduated from Converse High School in 1948. Bob served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He started his working career at C & O Railroad and retired from Essex Wire and Cable in 1986. After retirement, he worked for 1st Farmers Bank and Trust Co. in Converse.

Bob was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of the Amboy American Legion Post 429. Bob was a member of the Converse Church of Christ and the Senior Saints of the church.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Louise, are a son, Patrick (Edwina) Gibson, Marion; daughter, Shirley (Charles) Huffman, Chesterfield, Va.; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Katherine Sutton; stepbrother, Larry Sutton; and two stepsisters, Joan Oden and Margery Bates; brother, James Gibson; and sister, Virginia Moon.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Owen-Weilert-Duncan Funeral Homes, Larrison-Martin Chapel, 308 E. Marion St., Converse, with Pastor John Clark officiating. Burial will be in Marion National Cemetery with military honors. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
