James 'Jim' Kay Meyer

James “Jim” Kay Meyer, 80, Tipton, passed away Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Tipton. He was born May 6, 1933, in Bluffton, the son of the late Alvie and Marguerite (Myers) Meyer. He married Nancy Irwin (Good) Meyer on March 22, 1952 in Fort Wayne.

Jim was a 1951 graduate of Bluffton High School and a 1957 graduate of Purdue University, receiving a bachelor of mechanical engineering degree. He worked in the Indianapolis Allison Jet Propulsion test cells for one year in 1956, returning to Purdue to finish his mechanical engineering degree in 1957. He was resident engineer and product engineer manager for Chrysler Corp. in Kokomo at the time of his retirement. He retired in 1989 after 32 years with the company.

He worked during his junior high and high school years for the Bluffton Tribune, first as a paper carrier, and later in the evenings in the newspaper office. He was a Boy Scout receiving his Eagle Scout award, was Mayor for a Day, Bluffton, and belonged to Scouting’s Order of the Arrow. In 1950 as a scout, he attended the National Jamboree at Valley Forge, Pa.

Jim was an active past member of the Sharpsville United Methodist Church, Lions Club and Volunteer Fire Department. While in Sharpsville, he coach Little League baseball. In 1968, after moving the family to Tipton, Jim was a member and held several offices in Kemp United Methodist Church and Lions Club. He was also a member of the Tipton Elks Lodge.

Jim and Nancy not only raised their own four children, but also Nancy’s younger sister, Margaret Ann (Good) Widup, Sharpsville.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy, Tipton; four children, Thomas, Tipton, Jama and partner Joanne Kelly, Pasadena, Calif., Cynthia Parrish, Orlando, Fla., and Kurt A. Noblesville; sister-in-law, Margaret Ann Widup (Max), Sharpsville; sister-in-law, Jane Meyer (Gene), Bluffton; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant son; his parents, Alvie and Marguerite Meyer; a brother, Gene Meyer; and son-in-law, Jeffrey Parrish.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kemp United Methodist Church, 228 N. Main St., Tipton.

Services have been entrusted to the Neptune Society of Indianapolis.
