Donald Calvin Smith, 84, passed away in the evening Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, in his home in Galveston, where he had made his home for 58 years. Don was born in Greentown to John Winslow and Pauline (DeMotte) Smith on Sept. 24, 1929. On June 24, 1950, in Kokomo, he married Gretta Joan Rioth.
He was a graduate of Kokomo High School Class of 1948 and attended one year at IU Kokomo.
He is survived by his wife, Gretta, and three children, daughter Debra L. and Edward Beheler, son Steven R. and Lauri Smith, and son Jeffery D. Smith; six grandchildren, Ed Beheler II (Julianne), April Weaver (Ryan), Amber Beheler, Brandon Smith (Cambria), Clinton Smith (Kat), and Andrew Smith; five great-grandchildren, Anna, Emma, Trip (Ed III), Lorraine and Owen; and one sister, Judith Kay Ligon.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Marian Weaver, Barbara Wagner and Betty Myers.
Donald was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kokomo. He had worked at Cuneo Press and was a journeyman pressman until it closed. Then he worked at Haynes International. He and his wife formerly had an antique business dealing mainly in postcards and antique and collectible glassware and china.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Murray-Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston, with the Rev. Father Anthony Rolland officiating. Burial will follow at Galveston Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with a Scripture service at 7:30 p.m.
