Thomas J. Hilligoss Sr., 88, Kokomo, passed away at 5:50 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, at Community Howard Regional Health. He was born Aug. 12, 1925, in Kokomo, to the late Rolden G. and Betty F. (Bartolski) Hilligoss. On May 25, 1946, in Kokomo, he married Marjorie Lou (Griswold). She preceded him in death Nov. 19, 2010.
Mr. Hilligoss served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He retired from the Kokomo Police Department in 1969. After retirement, he owned and operated Key Real Estate, and worked at Dorothy Edwards Real Estate as well. Tom and Marjorie were residents of Kokomo until 1979, when they became extensive travelers. They lived in California, Virginia, Arizona, New Mexico and other locations.
Surviving are his son and a daughter-in-law, Thomas J. and Sauni Hilligoss Jr., Kokomo; two grandchildren; Kristen Cesar, and Cara (Jason) Snyder, both of Kokomo; a great-grandchild, Luc Cesar, Kokomo; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Robert and Billie Lou Hilligoss, and Fred Hilligoss, all of Kokomo; a brother-in-law, Robert Hillis, Kokomo; and a special friend, Barbara Milaskey, Kokomo.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and a sister, Doris Hillis.
Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St. Graveside services for Mr. Hilligoss will be at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery.
