---- — Janet “Jan” Sue Bertram, 75, passed away and went to be with the Lord Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, in Kokomo. Janet was born May 5, 1938, in New Castle, to Roy and Margaret (Fielding) Garvin. She graduated from New Castle High School in 1956. Also in 1956, Janet married Knox Mitchell Bertram in New Castle. In 1960, the couple moved to Kokomo.
In 1967, Janet began working at Delco Electronics (General Motors), where she was a member of Local 292. Janet worked at Delco for 30 years until her retirement in 1997. Here, she met many friends who were dear to her heart. She enjoyed time spent with them, whether it was taking road trips, walking the great outdoors, gathering for weekly luncheons or attending concerts in the park.
Most importantly, Janet was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother who was devoted to her family. She was especially fond of attending sporting, school and church activities in which her daughters and granddaughters participated. She also made many personal sacrifices for her loved ones throughout her life. She was truly an inspiration to her family and will be greatly missed.
Janet is survived by two loving daughters, Cindy (Scott) Miller, Carmel, and Vicki (Bob) Smock, Kokomo; three granddaughters, Lyndsey (Joey) Dyer, Russiaville, Kristin Antosik, Tampa, and Samantha Miller, Carmel; three stepgrandchildren, Kriss Smock, Frankfort, Hadley Miller, San Francisco, Calif., and Tyler Miller, New York City; one stepgreat-grandson, Evan Smock, Frankfort; three brothers, Jack (Lois) Garvin, Bill Garvin, and Roy (Peggy) Garvin Jr., all of New Castle; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Knox; her sister, Mary Raines; and her brother-in-law, Bruce Raines.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, 2097 W. Alto Road, with Will Price officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
