Frederick E. ‘Fred’ Myers

Feb. 28, 1949 - Jan. 7, 2013

— Frederick E. “Fred” Myers, 63, Kokomo, joined loved ones in Heaven at 11:40 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at Indiana University North Hospital, Carmel. He was born Feb. 28, 1949, in Kokomo, the son of Frederick C. and Zelma Maxine (Degraffenreid) Myers. On Oct. 19, 1973, in Kokomo, he married Emily A. Small, who survives.

Fred was a 1967 graduate of Kokomo High School and a 1971 graduate of Indiana State University. He was a general supervisor at Delphi Corp., retiring in October 2008 after 35 years of service. He had also worked at Sam’s Club since 1999 and taught at St. Patrick School for two years prior to working at Delphi.

Fred kept a positive attitude throughout his illness and was a source of strength to those around him. He enjoyed vacationing in Panama City Beach and Destin. He coached Western eighth grade boys basketball for five years and kept statistics for the Western High School boys basketball team for 20 years. He enjoyed golfing, boating and watching his grandchildren’s sports and activities.

Fred is survived by his wife, Emily A. Myers, Kokomo; three daughters, Jodi Maddox and husband Brian of Russiaville, Jennifer Daily and husband Aaron of Kokomo, Jamie Maddox and husband Tony of Westfield; grandchildren, Corey Maddox and wife Emily, Caleb Maddox, Caylee Maddox, Cami Maddox, Kaelyn Maddox, Corbin Maddox; several granddogs; sister, Janet Wysong and husband Earl; two brothers, Truman Myers and wife Maxine, Bob Myers and wife Shirley, all of Kokomo; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Cayla Maddox; in-laws, Glendon and Margaret Small; brother-in-law, Jack Small; special dog, Reggie.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, with Steve Cole officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank the staff at Central Indiana Cancer Center in Fishers, Dr. Sherri Nuss and her staff, Dr. William Harvey, Dr. Jennifer Morgan, Dr. Irene Minor, Dr. Michael Reeder, and the staff of IU North Hospital, Floor 5B, who cared for Fred and our family as if we were a part of their family.
