Robert ‘Bob’ Kinney

April 29, 1945 - April 8, 2013

Robert “Bob” Kinney, 67, passed away in the early morning hours of Monday, April 8, 2013, with family at his side at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis. Bob was born April 29, 1945, in West Middleton, to Rupert Stanford Kinney and Dorothy Laverne Trusner Kinney. He was the youngest of four children. Bob lived in Howard County until a decade ago, when he and his wife Zelma relocated to Putnam County to enjoy retirement in the country.

Bob served in the U.S. Army as a staff clerk, and was honorably discharged. He worked at Chrysler Corporation in Kokomo for 30 years before retiring. Bob also was a member of the Indiana Free Mason Naphtali Lodge 389, where he was initiated in 1976. Bob and his family were actively involved in West Middleton United Methodist Church during the 1980s, and he remained a life-long Christian.

Throughout his life, Bob and Zelma were noted for their kindness, and were caretakers to many family members. One of his final acts was organ donation, with the support of his family, and the donation of his two corneas guaranteed eyesight for two recipients.

Both Bob and Zelma indicated that their proudest accomplishments were their two children. Kraig Kinney, their son, is an attorney, paramedic and director at Putnam County Operation Life in Greencastle. Kara Kinney Keyes, their daughter, is a certified public accountant and partner in the Tampa, Fla., firm of BBK.

Bob had just become a grandfather through Kara and her husband, Don Keyes. They had twin children, Corey Ambrose and Caitlin May Keyes, who were born just one day before Bob’s untimely passing.

Bob is survived by his wife of nearly 45 years, Zelma Minn Horner Kinney; his children and grandchildren; sisters, Amy Geary, Poland, Ind., and Althea “Cc” Etherington and husband Dale, Kokomo; brother, Richard Kinney and wife Joy, Poland, Ind.; two brothers-in-law, Everett “Butch” (Barb) Horner, Portland Mills, and Jack and Jeana Horner, Greenfield; and countless nieces, nephews, and other family.

In line with Bob’s wishes, his remains will be cremated. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Bob’s life at 1:45 p.m. Sunday with a brief memorial service at the Reelsville-Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department, 7748 S. 625 W., Reelsville, IN 46171. Dinner will be served at 1 p.m. by Big Walnut Missionary Baptist Church. Family will also receive visitors at the fire department from 2 to 3 p.m. following the service and meal.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for those that prefer not to travel, that family and friends consider sending their remembrances of Bob and photos to Kraig Kinney at kkinney@olambulance.com, for creation of a scrapbook for his grandchildren so they might get to know him as they get older. Contributions may also be made in Bob Kinney’s name to the National Pancreatic Center Foundation at www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/kraigkinney/kraigkinneysfundraisingpage.
