Dorothy Miriam (Sutton) Brumfiel

June 1, 1926 - Dec. 3, 2012

Dorothy Miriam (Sutton) Brumfiel, 86, Sharpsville went to be with her Lord Jesus at 5:25 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, in the home of her daughter Nancy. Three of her four children, were with her as she went to Heaven.

Dorothy was born June 1, 1926 in Homeopathic Hospital, East Providence, Rhode Island, the daughter of Robert Joseph Sutton Ethel Wilhemina (Benson) Sutton. On April 6, 1946, Dorothy married Willis “Bill” Arthur Brumfiel in East Providence, R.I., and he preceded her in death on his 61st birthday, May 10, 1982.

Dorothy was the oldest of 11 children. She graduated in 1944 from East Providence High School, East Providence, R.I. Dorothy worked in Rhode Island at a family owned candy business, as a soda jerk in a local restaurant, at Browne and Sharpe Mfg. Co., and Mason Can Co., where she met her husband. After they married they moved to Kokomo where Bill’s family lived. After the death of their 5-year-old son, Michael, Dorothy and Bill moved to Sharpsville. From 1948 to 1954 she worked at Stellite, from 1954 to 1960 she worked at Kolux Sign Co., and went on to retire from Delco Electronics in 1986.

She moved in 1988 to Lakeland, Fla. and lived there for 17 years. While in Florida, she was a member of Victory Church. She was a long-standing member of Heartland Church, Sharpsville, for over 31 years, and loved the Lord with all her heart. The only way her children could get her to move back to Indiana in 2005 was to promise to take her to church every Sunday. Dorothy was able to fulfill one of her legacy wishes by presenting a personal Bible to each of her grandchildren.

She tap danced while growing up, loved to bowl, line-dance, and swim. She also enjoyed playing cribbage, but her favorite things in later years were circling word puzzles, attending her favorite church activity 56ers, and playing Skipbo with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Lou (Brumfiel) Robinson, Palm Bay, Fla., Nancy Ann (Dan Allen Sr. ) Carney, Sharpsville, and Connie Marie (Paul David) Cates, Sharpsville; son, Jerry Matthew Brumfiel, Tipton; grandchildren, Larry Wayne Robinson (girlfriend Jennifer Sokol), Melbourne, Fla., Karen Sue (Dion) Fisher, El Paso, Texas, Dan Allen Carney Jr. (wife, Debra), Yardley, Pa., Brad Allen (Lisa Kidwell) Carney, Kokomo, Adreanne Nicole Cates, Sharpsville, Matthew DeWayne (Jennifer Briscoe) Brumfiel, Elwood, David Lee Brumfiel, Muncie, and Christina “Christi” Brumfiel, Lafayette; great grandchildren, Christina Marie Robinson, Elizabeth Joy Robinson, Dylan Andrew Robinson-Sokol, Melbourne, Fla., Frederick “Freddie” Daniel Carney, Yardley, Pa., and baby Henry Douglas Carney, to be born Jan. 17, 2013, Yardley, Pa.; step-great-grandchildren, Kayla Scarlett Trent, Brianna Leigh Trent, Kokomo, Logan Andrew Brumfiel, Elwood, Selena LeAnne Brumfiel, Elwood, Siris Levi Lewis Brumfiel, Elwood, Corey Lavanda Brumfiel, Elwood, David Lee Brumfiel, Jr., Kristyn Faye Brumfiel, Zachery Rain Brumfiel, Aliyah Brumfiel, Boston Brumfiel, Krystina Ranae Brumfiel and Damian Rhys Brumfiel.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. today at Heartland Church, 3611 N. S.R. 19 Sharpsville, with Pastor Nathan Salsbery officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Church and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.
