John Wakeland Fisher, 89, Logansport, passed away at 11:35 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012.
A 1942 graduate of Burnettsville High School, John graduated from the Indiana Institute of Mortuary Science in Indianapolis in 1944.
In 1950, he founded Fisher Funeral Chapel in Logansport. The funeral business, which now includes a branch in downtown Lafayette as well as the new chapel at 1801 Chase Road, Logansport, is owned and operated by second and third generation Fisher family funeral directors.
Surviving are his wife, Mary; daughter Patricia Fisher; daughter-in-law Dawn Fisher; six grandchildren, Nicole Stark, Jarrett (wife Melissa) Stark, Jonathan (wife Nikki) Fisher and Jacob, Sarah and Chase Fisher; three great-grandchildren; and five brothers-in-law, including Irvin Kesling of Kokomo.
He was preceded in death by one son, John David “J.D.” Fisher; one grandson and one brother.
A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Fisher Funeral Chapel, Logansport. Interment will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral chapel, where a Masonic service will be at 7:30 p.m., followed by a Shrine processional and Eastern Star service.
