Carolyn Wood

Nov. 14, 1941 - March 21, 2013

Carolyn Wood, 71, passed away at 8:09 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013, at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born the daughter of John and Louise (Eckley) Harper in Kokomo on Nov. 14, 1941. On July 1, 1959, she married Richard “Dick” Wood, her childhood sweetheart, and he preceded her in death Aug. 18, 2009.

Carolyn was a 1959 graduate of Kokomo High School and went on to become a licensed cosmetologist. She worked at the Catalina, Delco, and owned the American Band Supply with her husband. She was artistically talented, playing the piano and accordion but also painted, quilted, sewed, and made baskets. If she set her mind to learning something new, she’d get a book, figure it out, and start doing it.

Carolyn enjoyed participating in a line-dancing group in Florida, had been a member of the Kokomo Country Club and local Mah Jongg club. She and her husband enjoyed hosting annual 500 Race day parties for many years. Carolyn also had the privilege of teaching all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren how to swim in her own pool.

She is survived by her daughter, Janet (Ian) MacLachlan, Cutler; son, Rick (Kristine) Wood, Snoqualmie, Wash.; grandchildren, Rachel (Denver) Jones, Kara (Hanson) Bultman, Tony Shuck Jr., Emily Wood, and Riley Wood; great-grandchildren, Kylie Bultman, Vinny Thomas, Max Jones, and Kyle Jones; and a brother, Ronald (Nancy) Harper. She will be missed by her little dog, Tina, who was very fond of her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dick; and her daughter, Jane Shuck.

Contributions in Carolyn’s memory may be made to the Indiana Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center, 8402 Harcourt Road, Indianapolis, IN 46260.

A celebration of her life will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at 1315 W. Lincoln Road, with the Rev. Becky Sundquist officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 1 p.m. until the time of service.
