Roscoe ‘Tommy’ Thompson

May 28, 1916 - April 4, 2013

— Roscoe “Tommy” Thompson, 96, Walton, passed away at 4:50 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2013, at McKinney House, Logansport. He was born May 28, 1916, in Watseka, Ill., the son of Willett and Ruth (Kline) Thompson. He was married July 16, 1939, in Logansport to Opal J. (Bean) Thompson. She preceded him in death May 8, 2001.

His first job was with the U.S. Agriculture Department. He started farming in 1939 and was an inspector for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He and his wife, Opal, purchased Combs shoe store, Logansport, from the Combs family and operated it until its closing.

He graduated from Bunker Hill High School in 1934. He was a member of Otterbein Methodist Church and later transferred to the Galveston United Methodist Church. He was a past governor for the Moose Lodge, past member of the Elks and Eagles lodges.

Surviving are a daughter, Judy A. Guy, Walton; two grandchildren, Tia (Jack) Shadday, Walton, and Tom L (Maria) Guy, Indianapolis; four great-granchildren, Jordan (Lexi) Shadday, Hannah Guy, Mallory Guy and Zachary Guy; a nephew, Ronnay Jackson; and several great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son-in-law, Harold G. Guy; and nephew, Bill Jackson.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Monday at Murray-Weaver Funeral Home, Galveston, with the Rev. Larry Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Walton IOOF Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
