Marilyn J. Shires, 80, Kokomo, passed away at 10:38 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Marilyn was born Oct. 26, 1933, in Mechanicsburg to the late D. Clayton and Doris Allen. Her marriage to Billie C. Shires, who preceded her in death, was May 27, 1954, in Frankfort.
Marilyn loved to Karaoke, she would do it any time she had the chance. She also was a member of the Alligator Club. She worked in retail for a total of 30 years, working at Hills, F.W. Woolworths, Kmart, Airway-Target, Kokomo Home Center, and Samaritan Care Givers. She was a member of the Moose Auxiliary, Eagles 255 Auxiliary, and the VFW Auxiliary 1152.
Survivors include three sons, Terry Allen (Mary), Mike Shires (Becka Mullen) and Kevin Shires (Renee); two daughters, Melinda “Mindy” Schultz (Bill) and Melissa “Missy” Reed; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Shires; a brother, Gary L. Allen (Jean); 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and her companion, Rick Ringle.
She was preceded in death by her parents, D. Clayton and Doris Allen; her husband, Billie C. Shires; a son, Greg Shires; and two brothers, Ray and Donald Allen.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St. Services will follow at noon at the mortuary, with Pastor Greg Reed officiating. Burial will take place in Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery.
