Constance R. Ellsworth, 94, died at 7:05 a.m. Friday, Sept. 13, 2013. She was born the daughter of Charles and Augusta Robinson Prescott on June 7, 1919, in New York City. She married Stuart Marsh Ellsworth Jr. on April 9, 1949, and he preceded her in death on July 14, 1966.
Constance graduated from Briarcliff Manor High School in Briarcliff, N.Y. She went on to earn her B.A. degree in English in 1940 from Elmira College in New York and earned her M.A. degree from Ball State in English in 1970.
She worked for Union Carbide in New York City, Haynes Stellite in Kokomo, and for the Kokomo-Center School Corp., retiring as chairman of the English Department of Haworth High School in 1984. After her retirement, she volunteered as a docent at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. She was a member of First Evangelical Presbyterian Church, P.E.O chapter BU, and Delta Kappa Gamma. She was an avid reader and writer, who also enjoyed gardening, playing bridge, art history, and gatherings with family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Mary (Dale) Tetrick, Carol (Dick) Lynch, and Stuart (Margaret) Ellsworth; grandchildren, Anne Marie (T.J.) Freeman, Jonathan Tetrick, Stephen Tetrick, Michael (Stacey) Lynch, Gregory Lynch, Graham Ellsworth, Charlotte Ellsworth. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Dick Hollands, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Jane Clokey, Lucy Walters, Elizabeth Hollands; sister-in-law, Priscilla King; brothers-in-law, Allison Clokey, Robert Walters, William King; and two nephews.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at First Evangelical Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Jerry Van Auken and Pastor Joyce Harris officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of service.
