Frances M. “Babe” Gish, 96, Camden, passed away at 4:47 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at St. Elizabeth Central Hospital, Lafayette. She was born Jan. 27, 1917, in Bantry, N.D. She was the daughter of John and Annis (Billiard) Shafer. She graduated in 1935 from Camden High School. She married Max Gish on Feb. 6, 1941, at Flora, and he preceded her in death Jan. 29, 1986.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church at Camden and a member of the Order of Eastern Star 475 at Camden. She loved quilting, mushroom hunting, flowers and bird watching.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews. A nephew Kevin Shafer and friend Carolyn Edging were her care givers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter and her eight brothers and eight sisters.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. Friday until time of services at 1 p.m. at Cree Funeral Home, Camden. Pastor Jerry Long of Camden First Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Camden Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Camden First Baptist Church.
