---- — Barbara Largent Besser Geiger, 85, Kokomo, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph Hospital Oct. 6, 2013. She was born July 12, 1928, in Kokomo to Katherine (Barnes) and Bert Largent. On June 14, 1947, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church she married Bill Besser, the father of her two children. In 1968, she married William Geiger and divorced in 1978.

She worked for Delco Electronics and retired in 1987. Throughout her 42 years of service she worked on the line at Plants 5 and 8, worked as a clerk, and in the shipping and traffic departments and ended her career in finance. After retirement, she cashiered at Kokomo Speedway, Gas City Speedway and worked at Serendipity.

Barbara had been a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority since 1958 and held many offices and served as co-chairman for its state convention. This organization gave her lifelong friendships that are irreplaceable.

She is a 1946 Kokomo High School graduate and was a co-chairman of the class reunions for many years. She was also a Del-Ray member. Family was very important to her and she liked spending time with her children and grandchildren and more recently her great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed cross-stitch and embroidering. She was the matriarch of the family and would do anything for anyone any time. Barbara was a true and loyal friend who will be sorely missed.

Surviving are a son, Michael Besser and wife Terri; a daughter, Theresa Nielander and companion Ron Kirkpatrick; grandson, Travis Besser; granddaughters, Tracie Meeker (Adam), Julie Jacobs (Adam), Jan Armstrong (Matt), great-grandchildren, Radlee and Bodee Besser, Caydence and Addisen Betz, Bryce Jacobs, Nicollette Armstrong, Andrea and Jared Meeker. Also surviving are brother-in-law, Carl Cox; sister-in-law, Florence Largent; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, infant sister, Betty Largent; sisters, Norma Noland and Delores Cox; and brother, Arthur Largent.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Children’s Diabetes Society.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ellers Mortuary, 3400 S. Webster St.; and one hour prior to the funeral at the church.
