Larry Glenn McNew, 72, rural Tipton County, passed away Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at Community Howard Regional Health in Kokomo. Larry was born in Tipton on Oct. 22, 1940, to Floyd and Pearl (Scott) McNew. On May 16, 1969, he married Glenda Applegate and she survives.
Larry was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He had served his community in a variety of capacities over the years. He was a reserve officer with the Tipton Police Department, Tipton County Community Corrections, Tipton County Civil Defense, Tipton County EMA and worked as a private security officer. In his spare time, Larry enjoyed spending time outdoors. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fishing, hunting, target shooting and camping. He had a passion for tinkering. Larry had retired from Pioneer’s Parent Corn Division.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda (Applegate) McNew, rural Tipton County; his children, Brian and Kimberly McNew, Anne and Brice Poindexter and Andrew and LaToya McNew, all of Tipton County. His grandchildren also survive, Tara McNew, Kaylie and Keith Poindexter and Malina and Breeana McNew; stepgrandchildren, Nathan, Tabitha and Joseph Ebert; one great-grandchild, Lilly McNew; step great-grandchildren, Caden and Mason McCool; two sisters, Patricia Ogden and Margie Moss, both of Tipton.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Scott McNew.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Porter Funeral Home, 726 E. North St., Tipton. Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. the same day, with Pastor John Dillon officiating. Online condolences can be made at porterfh.com.
