Juanita Flora Coleman, 75, Kokomo, died at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born Nov. 24, 1937, in San Marcos, Texas, the daughter of Ricardo and Guadalupe (Coronado) Esparza.
Juanita was a 1955 graduate of Kokomo High School and a 1973 graduate of the Kokomo School of Practical Nursing. She was a LPN at Sycamore Village Health Care Center, retiring after 30 years of service. She loved attending basketball games. Her favorite player to follow was Larry Bird. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Juanita is survived by her son, Anthony Coleman; daughters, LaVerne Wallace, Barbara Vandevender; grandchildren, Ramon (Alicia) Reece, Daphne (Fred) Jackson; great-grandchildren, Stephanie Reece, Taylor Reece, Docker Reece, Ramon Reece III, Gabrielle Reece, Celeste Reece, Jalen Wilson; special cousin, Jesse Hillman; and a host of other cousins.
She was preceded in death by her son, Lockert Coleman III; mother, Christine Cato; father, Ricardo Esparza; stepfather, Hartsell Cato; brother, Ysabel Esparza; uncle, Pablo Esparza; aunt, Mary Mendoza; former husband, Lockert Coleman Jr.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, 414 W. Jefferson St., Kokomo, with the Rev. Father Joshua Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in Kokomo Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home on Wednesday.
