---- — Evelyn Anna Vandre, 84, Kokomo, died at 7:01 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at St. Joseph Hospital. She was born, Oct. 24, 1928, in Altamont, Ill., the daughter of Charles and Louise (Will) Stuemke.

Evelyn met her future husband when she was 3 years old. Leroy Henry Vandre lived on a neighboring farm. He had to wait until Evelyn was 16 to ask her out. On Nov. 12, 1950, in Altamont, Ill., they were married. They celebrated 62 wonderful years of marriage.

Evelyn was a graduate of Altamont High School and in Altamont she worked in a doctor’s office. In Kokomo, she worked as an insurance agent. She also was a founder of Our Friends Closet. She was an active member of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, where she made the banners. She was also a member of the Lutheran Woman’s Missionary Service Guild. Her church family was truly part of her family. She led the Valparaiso Art and Craft Guild. She was very active in Kokomo’s Dig & Hoe Garden Club, Hand and Foot Card Club, Duo Club and several other card clubs. She started the Prime-Timers Travel Club, with LeRoy, at Redeemer.

She is survived by her husband, LeRoy, Kokomo; son, Dan Vandre, Kokomo; daughter, Ann (Steve) Conwell of Sonoma County, Calif.; granddaughter, Savanna Conwell, Sonoma County, Calif.; brother, Norman (Dorothy) Stuemke, Austin, Texas; sister, Dorothy Burrow, Altamont, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Harold Stuemke, Delbert Stuemke; sister, Adeline Siebert.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, 705 Southway Blvd. E., with Pastor William Allison and Pastor Barry Akers officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Friends may call at the church from 11 a.m. until service time on Thursday.
