---- — Wanda Bernice (Rose) Burnette, 85, stepped into the Heavenly arms of Jesus at 5:05 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2014, surrounded by her children. She was born June 30, 1928, in Luttrell, Tenn., to Homer and Bessie (Hickle) Rose. She married Hubert Lee Burnette on June 25, 1945, and he preceded her in death Aug. 5, 2003.
Hubert was the love of Wanda’s life and she will rejoice in meeting him again in Heaven. He finally once again got her on the dance floor, this time in Heaven. Wanda lived life to the fullest and was the first one to jump in the car to go anywhere, anytime. Wanda enjoyed her children and thought they were priceless. She would celebrate their accomplishments and has always been Jeanette, Doyle, Eilene, Donna and Gail’s biggest fan. Her favorite days were surrounded by her five children. She adored all of her grandchildren. She loved sports, gospel music, singing, traveling, and the annual “girls” week in Florida. Spring planting of flowers was also a special event for her.
Although she is now in the arms of her Savior and with her husband, mother, and her sisters, her family will feel her absence each and every day. She taught them to be strong and to lean on each other, as she knew her family was special and had so much love. We love you Mom. Thank you for all that you are, all that you were, and all that you will continue to be in our hearts. We love you.
Surviving are her five children, Jeanette (Wanita) Burnette, Doyle Burnette, Betty Eilene (Ralph) Hamblin, Donna Burnette and Gail (Ted) Bowers; 10 grandchildren, Sabrina Kinder, Rene (Chris) Benge, Jenny (Scott) Stanley, Trisha (Jason) Shepard, Angela (Bruce) Mines, Mandie (Arin) Wolfe, Jason Burnette, Troy (Alice) Bowers, Kari (Greg) Kerr and Sara (Chris) Fickle; 26 great-grandchildren, Stacia and Christian Benge, Taylor Walker, Chelsey Wallace, Brendon Mossholder, Caylee Shepard, Chance Wolfe, Tallis, Shari and Abigail Bowers, Collin Keller, Elizabeth Bowers, Elsie Kerr, Noah, Danica and Lucas Fickle, Jordan, Colton Kailie and Keegan Burnette, Derek and Jordan Harper, Courtney and Cierra Shepard, Angela Cole and Joni Howard; and two brothers, Jack Rose and Johnny Rose.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hubert; and three sisters, Delpha Collins, Naomi Collins and Betty Lawson.
A very special thank you to our friends at Sterling House for all of their support to our family as Mom made her final journey.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Murray-Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston, with Pastor Paul Enochs officiating. Burial will follow in Galveston Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
