Carmen Elizabeth Foust, 83, Kokomo, passed away at 5:27 p.m. April 2, 2014, at the Wellington at Kokomo. She was born March 18, 1931, in North Judson to the late Herschel and Geroldine (Currier) Smith. On May 24, 1953, Carmen married Jack E. Foust in North Judson, and they were happily married until his passing Feb. 9, 2009.
Following high school, Carmen furthered her education with a master’s degree from Indiana University. She then began teaching in the Kokomo School Corp., where she taught for 30 years, retiring in 1994. Carmen was a past president of the YWCA and was a member of The Queens. She enjoyed basketweaving, painting and entertaining in her home, including the turkey-stuffing parties she would host. Carmen loved her family sincerely, including everyone that became part of her extended family.
Carmen is survived by her sons, Bryan (Belinda) Foust, Tyler, Texas, Scott Foust of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Eric (Sue) Foust, Kokomo; grandchildren, Jackie Adams, Harrison Foust and Joshua Green; a great-grandchild, Silas Richardson-Green; a brother, Warren Smith, Kokomo; and a nephew, Warren Smith II with his daughter, Ericka Smith, Blue Island, Ill.
Carmen was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Jack E. Foust.
There will be a memorial service for Carmen at 2 p.m. Sunday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., with Pastor Morgan Young officiating. Carmen’s family and friends are welcome to join together for a time of visitation that same day beginning at 1 p.m. until the time of the service, also at the mortuary.
