---- — Jean Harrigan, 100, passed away at 6:23 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at The Wellington of Kokomo. She was born the daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Searles) Able on July 12, 1913, in Louisville, Ky. On Jan. 2, 1937, she married John M. Harrigan in Louisville, and he preceded her in death April 18, 1968.
Jean was a homemaker who was known first and foremost as a loving and giving person. She loved roses and painting. She was also the first-ever queen of the Kentucky Derby in 1936.
She is survived by her son, Daniel J. (Jean Ann) Harrigan; daughters, Peggy (Marvin) Cones and Jane (Richard) Horn; grandchildren, Sheila Marie Harrigan, Michele (Pedro) Castillo, Kathryn (Shawn) Sullivan, Bryan Cones, Bradley (Jen) Cones, Gregory Cones and Joseph Cones; and great-grandchildren, Sarah, Abigail, Mary Elizabeth, Michael, Kirsten and Adelyn.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Wellington and Premier Hospice for their tender, loving care.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1229 N. Washington St., with the Rev. Father Mike McKinley the celebrant. Burial will follow in Linden Cemetery, Linden. Friends may visit with the family from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.
