Lenore (Hunt) Boyd Myers

Oct. 6, 1922 - Nov. 4, 2012

Kokomo — Lenore (Hunt) Boyd Myers, 90, passed from this life to her heavenly home Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012. She slipped away peacefully at Riverwalk Village, Noblesville, surrounded by her loving family. Lenore Hunt Boyd Myers was born Oct. 6, 1922, in Kokomo, to Ernest M. and Julia (Sumption) Hunt.

She graduated from Kokomo High School in 1940 and went to Christian College in Columbia, Mo., graduating in the class of 1942. She continued on at the University of Missouri, where she was an active member of Delta Gamma sorority and graduated in 1944 with a degree in music.

Anyone who knew Lenore knew that music was her life. She was an accomplished pianist and organist as well as a talented vocalist. She taught elementary music in the Kokomo schools for three years after graduating from college, but her great love was being the organist at First Christian Church for 48 years. In 1977, she added the responsibilities of Chancel Choir, Children’s Choir and Hand Bell Choir directors. She retired from active service Oct. 1, 1994. She continued to work part time as the organist for Shirley and Stout Mortuaries from 1993 to 2005.

Lenore was active in local musical circles all her life. She was a member of Kokomo Morning Musicale, Kokomo Chapter of American Guild of Organists, appointed to the Kokomo Community Arts Commission in 1994, and a member of Chapter C of the P.E.O Sisterhood. She served 6½ years on the Kokomo-Center School Board and was its president when Haworth High School was dedicated. Her church was the mainstay of her life, where she had been a member since 1946. During that time, she served as an elder, Christian Women’s Fellowship president and teacher of Covenant Bible Study.

She had a love for family that extended well beyond her own three children. She spent many hours at her lake home in Angola entertaining nieces and nephews and many dear friends. Once her grandchildren were born, she traveled to Colorado frequently attending their games, school programs and spending as much time with them as possible. She was the centerpiece of the Kiovsky annual Christmas celebration, playing the piano, singing Christmas songs and spreading the joy of Jesus’ birth to all for over 25 consecutive years.

She is survived by her two daughters, Barbara Lee Kirk (Terry), Rifle, Colo., and Carolyn Boyd Kiovsky (Rick), Noblesville; her three beloved grandchildren, Kelly Kiovsky (partner Steph Greeman), Jody Ramey (Matt) and Scott Kiovsky (Alicia); one great-grandchild, Thaddeus Greeman Kiovsky (Tad); two stepgrandchildren, William and Claire Ramey; two stepsons, Jim and Greg Myers, Kailua, Hawaii; nieces, Kathryn Duncan (Kellen), Julia Mills (Don), and nephews, Todd Hodgdon (Pat), Thad Hodgdon (Sonia) and Matt Hodgdon (Theresa); as well as her faithful and loving brother-in-law, Willis Knipe.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harry Myers, Kailua, Hawaii, 1999; first husband, Robert L. Boyd, 2004; sister, Dorothy Knipe, 2004; and son, Robert H. Boyd, 2006.

Lenore was a wonderful mother and one of the greatest “Grammies” any family ever had. We thank God for her life, her love, her dedication, and we are grateful that He allowed her 90 years of stabilizing influence in our lives. She blessed us all!

Funeral services celebrating Lenore’s life will be at noon Saturday at First Christian Church, 854 N. Malfalfa Road, with the Rev. Ellen Anderson and the Rev. Will Jewsbury officiating. Entombment will follow in Kokomo Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends are invited to call from 10 a.m. until noon at the church Saturday.
