William O’Banion, 84, Kokomo, passed away at 9:38 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Harbor Manor Health & Living Center. He was born Feb. 14, 1929, in Kokomo to the late Joseph E. and Estella A. (Shook) O’Banion. On Feb. 6, 1960, he married Evelyn Miller, who survives.
William graduated from Russiaville High School in 1947. He went on to serve with the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from Chrysler Corp. after 30 years of service. He was a member of the UAW local 685. He enjoyed attending Indianapolis Colts games and had a lifelong love of basketball, having played center on his high school team at Russiaville.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn O’Banion; children, Bonnie, Theresa, Terry and wife Penny and David; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Patricia Kuntz; a brother, John Stern; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and 10 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be noon Saturday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Homes & Crematory, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 West Lincoln Road. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery with military rites provided by the U.S. Army and the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
