Clara W. Richey, 98, Windfall, died at 6:50 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Tipton. She was born Aug. 11, 1915, in Williamsburg, Ky., the daughter of the Rev. Thomas and Lily (Johnson) Woods. She was married Sept. 9, 1933, in Kokomo by Pastor Everett Nixon to Audra H. Richey, who preceded her in death Nov. 5, 1987.
Clara was a 1934 graduate of Sharpsville High School and had been employed for 24½ years at Delco Radio, retiring in 1979. Her memberships included the Church of God in Nevada, the Home Demonstration Club and the Extension Club in Sharpsville, and Widow to Widow in Kokomo. Her hobbies included gardening and reading. She was known throughout the community and to her family for the delicious angel food cakes that she baked for special occasions.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas L. Richey and his wife, Sherry, of Kokomo, Dan J. Richey and his wife, Joyce, of Noblesville; one daughter, Sherry S. Head and her husband, Bill J., of Russiaville; five grandchildren, Bret Head and wife, Robin, Andrea Wilson, Gina McGowan and husband, Vince, Dr. Joshua Richey and wife, Carrie, Jacob Richey and wife, Jennifer; two step-grandchildren, Terri Barber and husband, Joseph, and Tandee Babine and husband, Stephen; 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Elmer Woods, and one sister, Elva Stout.
Funeral services celebrating Clara’s life will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, with Pastor Jeff Harlow officiating. Burial will follow in the Nevada cemetery. Family and friends may call on the family from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
