William “Bill” Joseph Ridgeway Sr., 75, Kokomo, passed away at 11:40 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013. Bill was born Jan. 15, 1937, to Roy and Winifred (Duncan) Ridgeway. He married Beverly Sue Olmstead on May 4, 1957, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.
Bill attended St. Joan of Arc Church all his life. He was a faithful servant and served as an usher for many years. Bill worked at Chrysler for a short while, and then at Delco from 1965 until his retirement in 1998. He then went to work at Howard Regional Hospital as a valet parker from 2000 to 2010, where he never met a stranger.
He owned Bob & Bill’s Used Cars from 1970 to 1978 with his brother, Bob. They owned Ridgeway Construction, and built homes from 1960 to 1970. Bill owned Fiesta Homes in the early 1960s. Bill loved to go watch Kokomo High School basketball games, and was an avid Notre Dame fan.
Bill was a family man, the rock of the family and was always able to make everything alright. He loved having family dinners and get-togethers. Bill and Sue had a home on Lake Shaffer from 1962 to 1999, where he loved taking family and friends out on his boat and cooking out. He looked forward to watching his grandkids’ baseball games and great-grandkids’ baseball, football and soccer games.
Bill was married to Sue for 55 years, and still loved her dearly. He was very proud of his family. Bill also loved playing cards with his family. As Dad would say in his words, “So on and so forth.”
Survivors include his children, Tammy, Kokomo, Joe (Diane), Kokomo, Todd (Joan), New Palestine, and Tim, Oakford; grandchildren, Nathan (Melissa) Ridgeway, Kokomo, Nicole King, Kokomo, Natalie Ridgeway, Lafayette, Neal Ridgeway, Zionsville, Malorie and Landon Ridgeway, Fishers, Allison Murphy, Indianapolis, and Renee Nulf, Lebanon; great-grandchildren, Noah Ridgeway, Kokomo, Samuel Ridgeway, Kokomo, Zackary Ridgeway, Kokomo, Madeline Ridgeway, Kokomo, Micah Kling, North Manchester, Winnie Kling, North Manchester, and Joseph Ross Kling, North Manchester; sister-in-law, Marilyn (Don) Alfrey, Sebring, Fla.; brother-in-law, Keith (Diane) Olmstead, Russiaville; sister-in-law, Sharon Ridgeway, Indianapolis; and Mike, Greg, Brad and Scott Ridgeway.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Winnie Ridgeway; brother, Robert “Bob” Ridgeway; his mother and father-in-law, Ivan and Lois Olmstead; and nephew, Corky Ridgeway.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 3155 S. 200 W., Kokomo. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St. A rosary service will take place at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
