Patricia Louise Thompson

Feb. 7, 1927 - Jan. 16, 2013

Patricia Louise Thompson, 85, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at Waterford Place Health Campus. Pat was born Feb. 7, 1927, in Anderson to Wilbur and Emma (Hankins) Laughlin. On Oct. 8, 1946, Pat married Norman F. Thompson, who preceded her in death Sept. 2, 1998.

She graduated from St. Mary’s High School and attended Marian College.

Pat and Norm moved to Kokomo in 1959, when Norm was hired to bring Wonder Bread and Hostess Cake to the Kokomo area. In the late 1960s, they built and co-owned the Dairy Queen located on U.S. 31 Bypass. During the 1970s and ’80s, Pat was employed at and managed the Colony Shop Hallmark store and Helene’s Hallmark. She retired in 1998.

Pat enjoyed traveling and camping with Norm and her six children, pulling a Holiday Rambler camper through more than 30 states over the years. In November 1960, Pat was initiated into the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, of which she remained very active until recent years. Through the years, she held every office and was very active in both social events and philanthropic projects. It was in this organization that Pat acquired deep and lasting friendships with women who loved and supported her throughout her life, for which her family is ever grateful. Pat was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, where she served on the St. Patrick School Board for a number of years. Pat was also very active in the Rosary Sodality, helping with church bazaars, funeral dinners and counting the Sunday offering in the church office on a regular basis. She enjoyed giving of herself to the church she loved.

Very dear to Pat are her surviving M&Ms, who brought joy to her heart and laughter to her soul!

Pat is survived by her six children, Mike and (Rosie) Thompson, Becky (James) Rubush, Tim and (Diane) Thompson, Kevin and (Tammy) Thompson, Debby and (Patrick) Donoghue, Katrina (Bruce) Reed and Mike Bray, and a forever special daughter-in-law, Glenna Vetter and her husband, Mike; 23 grandchildren, Amber (Steven) Johnson, Erin Thompson, Irish (Liz) Thompson, Todd Rubush, Tiffany Rubush, Tara (Chris) Washington, Erich (Kristen) Jung, Kyle Thompson, Trey Thompson, Cherisse Thompson, Jeremy (Angela) Thompson, Heather Underwood, Kylie Thompson, Kasey Thompson, Chelsea Thompson, Dakota Thompson, Danielle Thompson, Amanda Barley, Chad Barley, Sarah (Erik) Henry, Holly (Darrin) Parrish, Carly Donoghue, and Hannah Reed; 20 great-grandchildren; Pat’s brother, Danny (Marabee) Laughlin; sisters, Charlene Kress, Cecile Wilimitis and Carolyn (Jerry) Carroll; and many nieces and nephews.

Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Norm; brother, Charles Laughlin; sister, Mary Jo Koester; and two son-in-laws she greatly missed, Jim Rubush and Bruce Reed.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1229 N. Washington St., with the Rev. Theodore Dudzinski officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Friends are invited to call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, and one hour prior to the Mass at the church on Monday.
