Jim Fennell

April 25, 1927 - Jan. 29, 2013

Jim Fennell, 85, Tipton, went home to be with his Savior at 10:31 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at Community Howard Regional Health in Kokomo. Jim lived in Windfall prior to 2001. He was born April 25, 1927, in Windfall, to Delbert and Nancy Ellen (Howell) Fennell. He married Carolyn Bryan on Dec. 21, 1951, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 25, 1997. Jim then married Norma Stewart on Aug. 18, 2001, and she survives.

Jim worked for Solar Petroleum as a LP truck driver, Kolex Sign Division in Kokomo, and as a life insurance salesman for Prudential and Equitable of Iowa. He served in the Army, 11th Airborne Division, from 1946 to 1948.

Jim was a member of the Windfall Christian Church, where he served as an elder for many years. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, NRA and Madison County Remote Controlled Airplane Club. Jim had been an amateur radio operator since 1960 with the call sign K9WKK. Jim loved playing golf and riding motorcycles. He was one solo flight short of his pilot’s license. It didn’t matter how bad he felt, he always looked up to see any airplane flying overhead.

He is survived by his wife, Norma; two daughters, Shelly Asher, Tipton, Teri Curnutt and husband Steve, Arcadia; two grandchildren, Joseph Asher and Janae Curnutt; three stepchildren, Linda Peters and husband Steve, Tipton, Jerry Stewart, Michigan, Randy Stewart and wife Kathy, Tipton; six step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Fennell and wife Genny, Tipton.

Jim was preceded in death by a daughter, Jamie Fennell.

Jim’s funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Windfall Christian Church, with the Rev. Carl Roudebush presiding. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Windfall, with military honors. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday and 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, all at Windfall Christian Church.

Memorials may be made to the Windfall Christian Church, P.O. Box 126, Windfall, IN 46076. Young-Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
