---- — Francis Emery Lord, 96, Swayzee, went home to be with the Lord on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013. He was residing in Century Villa Health Care in Greentown and passed away peacefully with his son at his side.
He was the son of Zora Shrader Lord and Landa (Levi) Lord, and brother of Naomi Lord Wright, who preceded him to heaven.
Francis graduated from Swayzee High School in 1935 and International Business College in For Wayne. He was a beloved and successful farmer for the rest of his life. He was a member of Swayzee Christian Church, where he was an elder and taught Sunday school for many years. He served on the board for the State Bank of Greentown and was a member of Scottish Rite and the Masons. He loved spending time with his donkeys, ponies and his special friend, Junior, his pet rooster.
On Feb. 2, 1942, he married the love of his life, Vivian Ellen Gowin. She preceded him in death in 2004. Their son, Ronald Alan Lord, survives along with so many loving family members who will miss him terribly. Francis is also survived by his longtime companion, Carolyn Hiatt.
He was a strong and gentle man, who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Needham-Storey-Wampner Rybolt Chapel, 314 N. Washington St., Swayzee, with the Rev. John Frederick Buckley and the Rev. Nanci Rosinski officiating. Burial will be in Thrailkill Cemetery, Swayzee. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
