Martin M. “Marty” Hellmann, 56, Kokomo, died at 5:07 a.m. Monday, June 28, 2010, at St. Vincent Seton Specialty Hospital, Indianapolis. He was born Dec. 11, 1953, in Terre Haute, the son of Linus E. “Curly” and Dorothy L. (Bays) Hellmann.
He was a 1972 graduate of Kokomo High School. He had attended Indiana University Kokomo and Ivy Tech and graduated from ITT Technical College, specializing in automotive repair. He retired from the Chrysler Transmission Plant in 2008 after 28 1⁄2 years of service. He was member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church and UAW Local 685. He enjoyed auto racing and riding and repairing his motorcycles. Recently, he had developed an interest in photography and was rapidly becoming an accomplished photographer.
Survivors include one son, Zachary L. “Zach” Hellmann and wife Deseree, Akron, Ohio; three grandchildren, Americus Bolen, Gavin Hellmann and Khloee Hellmann; three brothers, Lawrence P. Hellmann, Vista, Calif., Daniel J. Hellmann and wife Stephanie, Madison, and Paul L. Hellmann and wife Jayne Yang, Chula Vista, Calif.; four sisters, Janet C. Cannon, Denver, Colo., Maria E. Kirkman and husband Stephen, Kokomo, Dolores A. Abney and husband Ronald, Kokomo, and Mary P. Hellmann, Bel Air, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 3155 S. 200 West, with the Rev. Fr. David E. Hellmann the celebrant. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Shirley and Stout Funeral Home Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, and an hour prior to Mass at the church. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
