Jerry L. “Buckshot” Newcom Sr., 73, Kokomo, died at 10:27 p.m. Monday, June 24, 2013, at Community Howard Regional Health, Kokomo. Born Sept. 18, 1939, in Kokomo, he was the son of the late Jesse Earl Newcom and Margaret (Stevens) Newcom. On April 15, 1962, in Kokomo, he married Linda R. (Weaver), and she survives.

He retired from Delco Electronics on March 1, 1993, after 33 years of service. He was a member of U.A.W. Local 292, Eagles Lodge, and the Pioneer Auto Club. He enjoyed keeping his vehicles clean, yard work, traveling, trains, and his 1963 Ford Galaxy. He loved his grandsons dearly.

Survivors include his wife Linda R. Newcom, Kokomo; one son, Jerry Lee Newcom Jr., Kokomo; two sisters, Mary Irwin and Pat Baker, both of Kokomo; and two grandsons, Justin Newcom and Charlie Newcom. There are also several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Jesse Earl “Junior” Newcom Jr. and Billy Newcom; also by two sisters, Barbara Indrutz and Clarice Eileen Beahrs.

Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. Friday at Ellers Mortuary Main Street Chapel, 725 S. Main St., Kokomo. Pastor Paul Enochs will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.

Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice, with envelopes available at the mortuary. Ellers Mortuary Main Street Chapel is handling arrangements.
