Jean B. Robinson

Nov. 15, 1925 - Dec. 11, 2012

Jean Burdge Robinson, 87, departed this life at 9:35 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Tipton. She was born in Tipton on Nov. 15, 1925, the daughter of Leroy M. and Mary Temple Burdge. On June 21, 1943, she married Robert L. Robinson, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 2, 2007.

She was a 1943 honor graduate of Tipton High School. Jean had been an employee of the Citizens National Bank, and was the first woman to ever serve as an officer of the bank. She retired Dec. 31, 1988, from the law firm of Watson and Hobbs, where she had been a legal secretary for nearly 30 years.

Jean was a strong believer in the National Rifle Association and was a member of the Golden Eagles. Jean had received the National Patriot’s Medal from the Golden Eagles.

She was well-known for her love of animals. One of her favorite pets was her pet raccoon, Clyde, who was with her nearly 10 years. For more than 50 years she fed wild animals nightly and the birds and squirrels daily.

Jean is survived by one brother, Jack M. Burdge, North Palm Beach, Fla., and three nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister and brother-in-law, Lucile and Howard Hobbs; and her sister-in-law, Martha Jane Burdge.

Jean’s funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Young-Nichols Funeral Home, with Pastor Paul Sutherland presiding. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Tipton. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
