Robert “Rob” Paul Booher, 78, Wooford Heights, Calif., died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at The Burlington Assisted Living Facility. Rob was born Dec. 4, 1934, in Elwood City, Pa., to Emanuel and Mildred (Moffatt) Booher.
He graduated in 1953 from Bell Gardens High, Bell Gardens, Calif. After high school he worked for American Tube as a crane operator and later served in the United States Army, where he was an M.P. stationed in Germany from 1958 to 1960. He spent most of his life in the wilderness of Alaska, where he homesteaded and worked construction through the Laborers International Union in Kenai, Alaska. He accepted Jesus Christ as his savior during the last days of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret “Margie” Booher, Wooford Heights, Calif.; a sister, Shirley Mehan, California; one son, Robin “Rob” (Linda) Merchant, Kokomo; two grandsons, Ryan (Andrea) Merchant, Fort Wayne, and Aden Merchant, Kokomo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and stepfather, Preston “Pres” Sorrenson.
A private memorial service with family was held in Kokomo at the home of his son, with Visitation Minister Larry Purvis of Frankfort First Church of the Nazarene officiating.
Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society. Cremation was entrusted by Sierra Valley Mortuary, Lake Isabella, Calif.
