Roberta Jean Grimme, a lifelong resident of Sharpsville, died Sunday, July 14, 2013. She was born Dec. 10, 1926, and was married Oct. 14, 1945, to Eugene Robert Grimme, who preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Jane Smith; parents, Howard and Lulu (Smith) DeWitt; a daughter-in-law, Brinda Kay Grimme; brother, Garnet Ford DeWitt; nieces, Vicky Lynne Hamilton, MaryLou King; and nephew, Jerry DWitt.
Surviving are sons, Ricky Gene Grimme and wife Donna, and Benny Dean Grimme and wife Elaine, all of Sharpsville; grandchildren, Kara and Ed Popelas, Chad and Jamie Hook, Joseph and Shannon Grimme, Shawn and Julie Smith and Brandon and Elizabeth DeFoe; great-grandchildren, Madison and Brayden Hook, A.J. Smith, Jacoby and Olivia DeFoe and Wesley Ryker Grimme.
Roberta graduated from Sharpsville High School in 1945 and Huffer Beauty College. She operated a beauty shop in her home for several years. She also worked at the Red Carpet Restaurant. She was an avid Tri-Central fan and attended many games and was a ticket taker for years.
She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, Kokomo, and was a Sharpsville Lioness. She was a great cook and delighted in making cinnamon candy for friends and relatives. She was an expert seamstress and gained the name of “The Basket Lady.” She loved spending time at her lake cottage in Silver Lake and most of all she loved spending time with and babysitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are asked to be sent to the Dollars for Scholars Program at Tri-Central High School.
Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Boyer Funeral Home, Sharpsville. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Sharpsville Cemetery, with the Rev. David Leeder officiating.
