E. Wayne Burthay, 53, passed away at 10:20 p.m. Monday, June 23, 2014, at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis. He was born the son of Merle Elgin and Laurel JoAnne (Pherson) Burthay on July 12, 1960, in Kokomo. On Dec. 6, 2001, he married Darcy K. (Wiseman) Herr, and she survives him.
Wayne was a 1978 graduate of Kokomo High School, and retired from General Motors in 2008. He enjoyed several hobbies, including, fishing, bowling, golfing, coaching baseball, doing home improvement projects and spending time with his dogs, Roxie and Nala.
He is survived by his wife, Darcy Burthay; son, Matthew Wayne Burthay; stepsons, Ryan (Meghan) Herr and Nathan Herr; his mother, Laurel JoAnne Burthay; siblings, Bill (Marcia) Burthay, Rick Burthay (Ron Summers), Robert (Lisa) Burthay, Carolyn Shuck, and Janice Burthay; sister-in-law, Debbie Burthay; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Merle Burthay; brother, Joe Burthay; and sister, Pat Burthay.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, with Joyce Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
