Helen L. (Vassele) Quirk, 89, Kokomo, passed away at 6:44 p.m. Saturday, July 5, 2014, at her residence. She was born Aug. 7, 1924, in Fort Wayne to the late Stoiche and Zvezda (Polincia) Vassele. In 1947 she married Edward E. Quirk Jr. Edward passed away Feb. 1, 2008.
Helen graduated from Kokomo High School with the class of 1942. She worked for Kingston Products for 22 years and Acura Parts as a supervisor until she retired. Helen enjoyed bowling, golf, playing basketball in high school, gardening, and fishing. She loved her family, friends, and her pets. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving are her four immediate nieces and nephews, Connie A. Land, Plainfield, Peter T. Vassele Jr., Kokomo, Rebecca S. (Randall) Wines, Ellettsville, Jeanne K. (Phillip) Conwell, Kokomo, several other nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and their children on both sides of the family.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Peter Vassele Sr., Christ Vassele, and one sister, Christina Lazoff.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the care givers who took care of Helen, great niece, Tiffany Johnson, Mary Harmon, Janet Anderson, Steph Bowlin, Katie Reynolds, Shawna Larkins, Charlene Smith, and special friend Lisa Vassele.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., with Pastor Charles Riley officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.
Memorial contributions in Helen’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, with envelopes provided at the mortuary. Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., is in charge of arrangements.
