BURLINGTON – Paul Wayne “Jim” Guge, 97, passed away at 1 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2014, at his home in Burlington. He was born on April 10, 1917, in West Middleton, to Clarence and Nella (Ressler) Guge. On July 1, 1939, Jim married Pauline Phillips in Mt. Echo Park in Cincinnati, Ohio, and she survives.
Jim was a 1935 graduate of West Middleton High School. He was a member for over 30 years at the Burlington Fire Department. Jim was a charter member of the Faith Church of Christ and a member of the UAW 685. He worked for Nickle Plate Railroad, and formerly owned Burlington Implement as well as the Burlington Café. He worked at Chrysler for 30 years, retiring in 1981, and worked for Neptune Funeral Home, now Stout & Son Funeral Home Neptune Chapel.
Survivors include wife, Pauline Guge, Burlington; two daughters, Bethan Buckley, Burlington, and Janelle (Bob) Oakley, Burlington; five grandchildren, Kevin Flora, Kurt Flora, Jeff Oakley, Jason Oakley and Stephen Buckley; six great-grandchildren, Britney Flora, Katelyn Flora, Ashtyn Oakley, Lexi Buckley, Logan Buckley and Carson Oakley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Nella Guge; and sister, Janice (Guge) Wolfe.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Faith Church of Christ, 1701 Michigan Road in Burlington with Steve Cole officiating. Burial will follow at Burlington Cemetery. Friends may call upon the family from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Stout & Son Funeral Neptune Chapel, 44 Michigan St., and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday at the church.
