Robert Stephen “Steve” Edgell, 67, Elwood, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital following an extended illness. Steve was born March 31, 1947, in Elwood, to Robert Edgell and Saundra (Gray) Peters. On July 11, 2000, he married Margaret (Rhodes) Edgell.
Steve graduated from Wendell Willkie High School in 1966. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, where he was honored with two Purple Hearts. Steve retired in 2005 from Chrysler Corp. after 30 years of service as a cutter grinder.
He was a member of UAW 685, 28th Infantry Association, American Legion, Alexandria Eagles, a life member of Howard County Vietnam Veterans, and a life member of the Elwood VFW Post 5782. Steve was not only a huge fan of the Green Bay Packers, but an owner. He loved to ride his motorcycle with his beloved Jazzy Brothers.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Margaret (Rhodes) Edgell, Elwood; daughter, Satin (Bill) Partlow, Frankton; grandson: Michael Partlow; great-grandson, Christian Partlow; three brothers, Rod (Pat Foudray) Edgell, Marion, Tim (Susie) Edgell, Marion, and Tony (Angie) Edgell, Elwood; sister, Cheri Singer (Terry Beamer), Alexandria; step son, Ryan (April) Rhodes, Terre Haute; and several nieces and nephews.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Robert Edgell; mother, Saundra Peters; and a daughter, Myra Edgell.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Dunnichay Funeral Home, Elwood, with Rich Leavell officiating. Burial will follow in Elwood Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the U.S. Army and American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Dunnichay Funeral Home, 1113 S. Anderson Street, Elwood.
