Clarence C. Cross, 69, Russiaville, passed away at 5:41 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2013, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born Sept. 28, 1943, in Seminole County, Georgia, to Clarence and Katie Lou (Williams) Cross. On June 16, 1966, he married Doris J. Shoffner, and she survives.
Clarence served in the U.S. Air Force from 1961 to 1981, and during the Vietnam War. He retired as a Senior Master Sergeant. He received the meritorious service medal, commendation medal with one Oak Leaf cluster, longevity service award with four Oak leaf clusters, and Vietnam service medal with two bronze stars. He also was the owner of South Side Cafe for 20 years in Kokomo. Clarence attended Chapel Hill Christian Church and was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Cross, Russiaville; two sons, Christopher M. Cross, Russiaville, and Jonathan D. (Monica) Cross, Summerville, S.C.; grandchildren, Cody Cross, Connor Cross, Danielle Atwell, Stefan Hayworth-Cross, Brandon Hileman, and Brent (Ashley) Fye; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rita (Gerald) Holl, Atlanta, Eloise (Homer) Levan, Great Falls, S.C., and Katie (John) Windham), Donaldsonville, Ga.; four brothers, Henry C. (Jerry) Cross, Baker, Fla., Marcell (Carolyn) Cross, Edgeville, S.C., James (Rita) Cross, Edgeville, S.C., and Dick (Sandy) Cross, Coco, Fla.; sister-in-law, Patricia (Tom) Grinslade; and brother-in-law, Dennis (Rustee) Shoffner.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Katie Lou Cross; and granddaughter, Brandi Fye.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 E. Main St., Russiaville, with Pastor Steve Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery in Kokomo, with full military honors. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, and on Wednesday from 2 to 3 p.m.
