Michael A. Andry

Michael A. Andry, 49, Converse, died Friday, July 12, 2013, at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood, following a motorcycle accident in Madison County near Elwood.

He was a lieutenant on the Grant County Sheriff’s Department, where he had been employed since 1989. He was former Town Marshal of Swayzee. He had formerly worked security for Indiana Wesleyan University, was an Expert Marksman, firearms instructor, stops instructor, and D.A.R.E. instructor. He was a former member of the Grant County J.E.A.N. Team.

He was a 1984 graduate of Eastern High School, and was a graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in Plainfield. He was a member of Swayzee Masonic Lodge Grant Chapter 637 and the National Organization of the Blue Knights (an organization of police officers who ride motorcycles).

He loved deer hunting, Indiana University and the Chicago Bears. He was in the process of restoring a 1949 Chevy pickup, which he had completely disassembled and was reassembling, with much pride. He loved his dog, Riley.

He was born Oct. 15, 1963, in Marion. His father Clinton I. Andry resides in Greentown, and his mother Marieta “Rita” Harvey (Garry) Hill also resides in Greentown.

Additional survivors include one daughter, Kylie (Kevin) Volmer, Swayzee; sister, Carol Robbins, Greentown; brother, Matthew (Kira) Andry, Marion; paternal grandmother, Lillie Mabel Andry, Paoli; companion, Amy Weagley, Marion; granddaughter, Kourtney; and three nieces, Mariah, Hannah and Emily Robbins.

Services are at noon Thursday at Grace Community Church, 1810 E. Bradford St., Marion, with Chaplain Darrell Smith officiating. Interment is in Knox Chapel, Point Isabel. Lt. Michael A. Andry will be honored with full police honors by the members of the Grant County Sheriff’s Honor Guard. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church, with Masonic Services at 7 p.m. by Swayzee Masonic Lodge. There also will be a visitation one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Grant County Chaplaincy Program, 214 E. 4th St, Marion, Ind., 46953. Online condolences may be made at www.armeshuntfuneralhome.com. Arrangements are being handled by Armes-Hunt Funeral Home, 415 S. Main St., Fairmount.
