Earl Dwain 'Monty' Montgomery

March 17, 1933 - July 16, 2013

Earl Dwain “Monty” Montgomery, 80, Kokomo, passed away at 11:24 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at his residence. Born March 17, 1933, in Wurtland, Ky., he was the son of the late Elgan Montgomery and Mary (Stevens) Montgomery. On Oct. 7, 1961, in Kokomo, he married Marilyn Mae (Smith). She preceded him in death Dec. 15, 2010.

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, retiring after over 20 years of service. He was also employed with Schraders Automotive and Button Dodge for many years. He was a member of In His Image Church. He enjoyed music, especially on Saturdays at Jamie’s Soda Fountain in downtown Kokomo. He also enjoyed keeping his vehicles spotless.

Survivors include one daughter, Diane (Andy) Rawls, Wilson, N.C.; one sister, Janie (Rodney) Fields, Virginia; one granddaughter, Chelcie (Dreher) Bozard, Whitaker’s, N.C.; three nieces, Becky (Jimmy) Wright and their daughter Janie, Mary (Jeff) Adams and their children Collin and Marynn, and Julie (Daniel) Wright; one nephew, Brad Fields; brothers-in-law and their families, Bob (Carolyn) Smith, George Raymond Jr. (Sara) Smith and Dick (Mary) Smith, all of Kokomo; and also many special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and an infant sister, Wilma Jean Montgomery.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., Kokomo. Pastor Brad Swain will officiate. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the mortuary. Graveside services with military rites by the United States Air Force will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens, 700 Red Devil Lane, Russell, Ky.
