---- — William “Bill” Platt, 78, formerly of Kokomo, passed away Thursday morning, July 11, 2013, in Lake Worth, Fla., following a courageous battle with lung cancer. Bill, fondly known as “Spike” to his Hoosier friends and family, was born Aug. 31, 1934, to John and Mildred Platt.

He lived, worked and raised his family in Kokomo, spending his weekends and vacation time on Lake Shafer in Monticello with his many friends and extended family. He became a snowbird in 1993 upon his retirement and a permanent Lake Worth resident in 2006 to stay near his family.Bill was a valued employee of PPG Industries in Kokomo for over 38 years. As all who knew him would agree, he was a kindhearted, generous and honest individual, loved by all. He was an avid golfer, competing in many local tournaments in both Indiana and Florida, winning quite a few along the way. His golfing buddies will attest that he enjoyed the 19th hole as well. Other hobbies included bowling in his younger years, and he played a mean game of gin and poker.Bill is survived by his wife and soulmate of over 50 years, Patricia "Patty" Beane, Kokomo; daughters, Kim and Lisa; sons-in-law, Steve Scott and Joe Palma; adored only grandchild, Nicole; his brother, Joe, Frankfort, Ky.; their children, Allison, Scott, Teresa, John and Vicky; and their families.

He was preceded in death by his brother, John.Bill will be sorely missed and mourned by all who knew him, but they take comfort and solace in the knowledge that he is at peace now, and without any further pain or suffering.Please join us for a “celebration of life” memorial service, which will be held for Spike from 3 to 6 p.m. July 28, at the American Legion Clubhouse, 2604 S. Lafountain St., Kokomo.Friends and family are encouraged to donate to their own favorite charity in lieu of floral arrangements.
