Darla V. Burris


— Darla V. Burris, Kokomo, died at 12:20 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2013. She was born Dec. 24 in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of George and Mabel (Davis) Delles Delker. On Dec. 29, 1953, in Toledo, she married George Burris, who preceded her in death March 3, 2000.

Darla was a 1953 graduate of Scott High School in Toledo. She was a member of First Congregational UCC. Her deep, abiding faith in God sustained her throughout her life, which she nurtured in her children and grandchildren. One of her greatest passions was developing her biblical knowledge and sharing her spirituality with members of her Bible study. She especially loved family gatherings and spending time with her children and grandchildren, who were the center of her life. She also enjoyed spending time with friends playing Bingo.

Darla is survived by her children, Leah Draper, Peru, Karen McCoy, Indianapolis, Randy Burris and wife Virna, Ottawa Hills, Ohio, Loriann Harmon and husband Neal, Burlington; eight grandchildren, Lacey Alberson, Amber Williams, Lindsay Ousley and husband Ben, Cameron Burris, Lee Shelley, Brandi Harmon, Danielle Amsbury and Conner Harmon; great-grandchildren, Madison Schmitt-Arnett, Troy Williams, Myah Powell, Makhi Powell, Sydney Ousley, Clayton Ousley, Wyatt Ousley and Alexis Shelley; sisters, Dawn Lewis, Vickie Paul, Sue Horn, Millie Steinhart and Evelyn Keller; brothers, John Delles, George Delles Jr.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; two grandsons, Troy Aaron and James Fowler; two sisters; and one brother.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at First Congregational UCC, 505 W. Mulberry St., with Pastor Jon Tice officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:30 a.m. until service time Friday.
