Robert Lee Miles Sr., 77, Kokomo, passed away at 8:45 p.m. Monday, May 6, 2013, at St. Joseph Hospital. Robert was born May 29, 1935, in Kokomo to the late Earl H. Miles and Eleanor Woodard (Wilson). On Dec. 31, 1954, Robert married Sharon Kay Maners, who preceded him in death. His marriage to the former Margaret L. Grove, who survives, was on Oct. 29, 1981, in Kokomo.
He worked for 30 years at Cabot Corp., which later became Haynes International. He worked at DeWitt Florist. He owned and operated Miles Tropical Fish Haven.
Robert was a member of Trinity Wesleyan Church and the Quarter Century Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, mushroom hunting, pitching horseshoes, working on old cars and gardening. He also enjoyed time with his beloved dog, Rusty.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret L. Miles; two sons, Robert Miles Jr. (Anita) and James C. Miles; two daughters, Kathy Miles and Serina Perry (Mark); two stepdaughters, Kathie Meyer and Brenda Clark; a brother, Jimmy Potts; two sisters, Sharolyn Pitner (Otha) and Jeannie Landseal (Jerry), a stepsister-in-law, Barb Grove; 11 grandchildren, Ryan, Andrew, and Laura Miles, Cliff, Trevor and Tyler Perry, Kamia Snyder, Christopher Topel, Derek Nelson, Brittany Kirby, and Kristen Huneck; 10 great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren, Renee Meyer and Devin Meyer; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Katie Jarrett and Chelsie Sanders.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Melissa K. Groves; and a stepson, Doug Meyer.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ellers Mortuary Main Street Chapel, 725 S. Main St. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Wesleyan Church, 1128 S. Purdum St., with Pastor William Babb Sr. and Pastor William Babb Jr. officiating. There will be one hour of visiting prior to the service on Friday at the church. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery.
