Lester Carl Willis Sr.

March 7, 1929 - April 2, 2013

— Lester Carl Willis Sr., 84, Kokomo, passed away at 1:55 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Kindred Transitional Care in Kokomo. He was born March 7, 1929, in Caylor, Va., to John and Sarah Jane (Grabel) Willis. On May 28, 1955, Lester married Winifred M. Pasley, and she survives.

Lester served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was saved at Mountian View Church in Caylor, Va., then moved his membership to Kokomo Missionary Baptist Church. Lester worked for Delco Electronics for 36 years and retired in 1986. He was a member of the UAW Local 292 and American Legion Post 6. He was a past member of Sharpsville American Legion, where he served as past commander. He enjoyed playing cards, gardening and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Winifred M. Willis, Kokomo; children, Lester C. (Patty) Willis Jr., Russiaville, Regina M. (Brad) Thieke, Kokomo, and Daniel E. Willis, Kokomo; eight grandchildren, Amber (Chris) Adams, Joshua (Sarah) Thieke, Sara Willis, Jacob Thieke, Joseph (Liz) Willis, Adam Thieke, Hannah Thieke and Lindsey (Steve) Ackerman; great-grandchildren, Emily, Alexandra, Gabrielle Adams, Addison, Kayden, Ellie Cassis, Bella Thieke, Eva Jane, Gabriel Thieke and two more due in October and May; brother, Paul (Jane) Willis, Kokomo; sister, Helen Stone, Kokomo; three sisters-in-law, Maxine Helton, Kokomo, Patty Young, Garland, Texas, and Lavonne Landrum, Sharpsville; and special friends, Chet Brittain, Bud Ballew, and Gene Pratt.

He was preceded in death by parents, John and Sarah Willis; five brothers, Sewell, Buster, Lee Emerson, Floyd and Glen; and one sister, Esther Overton.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 E. Main St., Russiaville, with Elder Monty Shoulder and Elder Terry Foster. Burial will be in Nevada Cemetery will full military rites. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Lester was proud to serve his country.

Memorial contributions may be given to Kokomo Missionary Baptist Church. The family would like to thank all the staff at Kindred Transitional Care for all the love and help for the past years.
