Alvin S. 'Sonny' Adams, Sr.

May 16, 1944 - July 18, 2013

Alvin S. “Sonny” Adams Sr., 69, Marion, died at 9 a.m. Thursday, July 18, 2013, at his home. He was born in Fowlerton to the late Irving and Margaret (Shattack) Adams. He married the love of his life, Phyllis A. Caudill, Feb. 26, 1965, in Fairmount. She survives.

He enjoyed his younger years lifting weights, boxing for the fun of it with his friends, jogging, baseball, hunting, fishing and coaching his sons’ baseball teams. He and his wife enjoyed bicycling, taking long walks, traveling and hanging out at Bob Evans, where everyone referred to him as “Dad.” He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Sonny was a dad and special uncle to all.

He loved telling his family and friends funny stories. He always found humor in his life. He was a great storyteller and never tired of reliving stories of days gone by. Sonny was a true man of God. He retired from General Motors (Fisher Body), Marion, where he worked as a press operator.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Adams; children, Alvin S. (Lisa) Adams Jr., William D. (Mary) Adams; grandchildren, Mike, Mandie (Steven) Babcock, Arthur (Tiffany) Geiger, Felicia, David; great-grandchildren, Jama, Cheyenne and Aubree; brothers, Charles (Dorothy) Adams, Leon (Kay) Adams, Allen (Joyce) Adams; sisters, Evelyn (Paul) Goss Sr., Norma Lee (Rosco) Hosier, Lois Blinton and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant twin sons, six sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, with Pastor Steve Eckart and Larry Baughman officiating. Burial will be in Grant Memorial Park, Marion. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to everyone for their care and compassion: Dr. R. Patel, Dr. Sharif & caretakers, hospice, and our granddaughter, Felicia Adams, who took loving care of her grandpa.

Memorial contributions may be made to Phyllis Adams c/o the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.nswcares.com.
