---- — Roy F. Ray, 101, Kokomo, passed away at 8:20 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Waterford Place Health Campus. He was born Feb. 10, 1912, in Michigantown, the son of Manford and Blanche (Keys) Ray. On April 11, 1941, he married Nina Swisher, who survives.

Roy graduated from Kokomo High School in 1931. He started his career working at Eikenberry Chevrolet. Shortly before the war he went to work at Globe American Co., where he worked on the drawing board and was co-designer of the first all-metal reversible life raft that was built in the country. After the war, Roy got back in the parts business, working at Button Motors. He spent 50 years selling automotive parts and retired from Schrader Automotive Parts.

Roy was a 75-year member of Masonic Lodge 93 and a 68-year member of First Congregational Church. He enjoyed working on the drawing board, going to Florida on vacations, and spending time at Lake Manitou in Rochester with friends and family.

Roy is survived by his wife of 72 years, Nina Ray, Kokomo; daughter, Janet (David) Rayl, Kokomo; two grandchildren, Eric (Tonia) Robison, Bloomington, Ill., Malissa (Scott) Maggard, Kokomo; four great-grandchildren, Zachary Robison, Kaitlyn Robison, Sydney Robison, Allison Morgan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles Ray, John “Ed” Ray, Francis “Toots” Ray, infant twin brothers; sister, Betty J. Trent Edwards.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, beginning with a Masonic service. Pastor Jon Tice and Pastor Herb Slack will officiate. Burial will follow in Crown Point Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from noon until service time on Thursday at the funeral home.
