Betty Jane Hill

Jan. 5, 1927 - March 29, 2013

Tipton — Betty Jane Hill, 86, passed away Friday, March 29, 2013. She was born Jan. 5, 1927, in Hagerstown, Md., to Charles and Ettalee Williams. She married Norman D. Hill on Jan. 1, 1946, and he preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by seven siblings.

Betty’s formative years were spent in Washington, D.C. She moved to Indiana after marrying Norman. They owned and operated a small candy store in Frankfort. Betty was later employed by Delco Electronics as a keypunch operator for 31 years. After retirement, she and Norman opened H&H Candies here in Kokomo. Betty always enjoyed being with her family, as well as spoiling her four grandchildren. Some of the fondest family memories were spent in Venice, Fla., where she and Norman spent the winters and entertained their grandchildren.

Betty was a member of First Christian Church. The friendship and support Betty received through her years attending First Christian Church were very important to her.

Some of Betty’s favorite pastimes in recent years were amateur photography, dancing (multiple wins at the Senior Citizens Center’s Elvis Dance Competition) and playing cards with friends. She always had a good sense of humor and enjoyed people immensely.

Surviving Betty are her younger brother, Robert L. Williams; daughters, Cynthia A. Hutchinson and Sandra L. Mapes; her sons-in-law, Lester R. Hutchinson and John B. Mapes; grandsons, John B. Mapes and C. Jordan Mapes; granddaughters, Sarah E. Hutchinson and Kate M. Mane; nephews, Frederick Quade and Richard Gagliano; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Williams.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church, 854 N. Malfalfa Road, with Pastor Will Jewsbury officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Parkinson’s Awareness Association. Messages of condolence may be expressed online at www.sunsetmemorygarden.com. Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
