Mary Margarett Johns, 96, Batesville, formerly of Burlington, died at 11:50 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2013, at St. Andrews Health Campus in Batesville. She was born Sept. 21, 1916, in Cass County, to Earl and Millie (Brandt) Spitler. On June 16, 1935, in Sharon, she married Robert M. Johns, who preceded her in death Oct. 13, 2005. They enjoyed 70 years together.
Mary was a 1934 graduate of Carrolton High School. She was employed by Delco Electronics, retiring after 30 years of service. She was a member of the Burlington United Methodist Church, and the Order of the Eastern Star, Burlington Lodge. She enjoyed arts and crafts, oil painting, working with stained glass, knitting and crocheting.
Mary is survived by two daughters, Bonita Kay and husband Jim Oliver, West Lafayette, and Karen and husband Paul Ehrman, Batesville; grandchildren, Mark Avery and wife Holly, David Avery, Laurie and husband Vern Vanderkleed, Greg and wife Angie Ehrman, and Rick and wife Heather Ehrman; two sisters, Ruth Lewis, Ft. Myers, Fla., and Judy and husband Paul Rimpler, Twelve Mile; nine great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Mary was preceded in death by one sister, Katherine Burnett; and two brothers.
Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Stout & Son Funeral Home, Neptune Chapel, 44 N. Michigan, Burlington, with Pastor Dan Butcher officiating. Burial will follow in Burlington Cemetery. Friends may call on the family from 11 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.
