---- — Florence J. Gingerich, 88, Defiance, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at the CHP Defiance Area Hospice Inpatient Center in Defiance, Ohio. She was born on May 8, 1925, to Louis and Leah (Neuhouser) Smead in Grabil. In 1942, she married Burton Furney, who passed away in 1970. In 1971, she married Walter Denver Gingerich, who survives.
Florence was a homemaker, and she was a member of First Church of God in Defiance.
Florence is survived by her loving spouse, Walter Denver Gingerich, Defiance, Ohio; daughters, Linda Eickmeier, Malinta, Ohio, Kathy (Omer) Otto, Kokomo, and Bonnie Gingerich, Kokomo; son, Frederic (Karen) Furney, Napoleon, Ohio; brother, Robert Smead, Harlan; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Burton Furney; son-in-law, Gale Eickmeier; grandson, John Eickmeier; and nine brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at First Church of God, Defiance, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Rick Rufenacht and Rev. Larry Kennedy officiating. Burial will take place in Hoy Cemetery.
